The American Association of Petroleum Geologists Rocky Mountain Sectional Meeting will be held in Bismarck, June 3-7th, 2023.  Many chair positions have been filled, but there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved in organizing, especially if you want to make sure your specialty is represented by a session or short field course.

Benjamin York was elected as Secretary-Treasurer for the Society (Megan Niess’ former position) by unanimous vote. Congratulations, Benjamin, and thanks for helping out.

Geologist Certification

There has been some interest among new members of the society toward looking at the merits of establishing some sort of professional certification for geologists. While the matter has been discussed in the past, a small committee has been formed to revisit the issue. Special thanks to our committee members: Kevin Solie, Chris Maike, Lance Loken, Dustin Anderson, and Tim Adair.

Teacher of the Year Award

The North Dakota Geological Society is seeking nominations for their annual North Dakota Earth Science Teacher of the Year award! Applications are due August 31st of each year, but are accepted at any time.
